AIHM is deeply committed to equity in healthcare and healthcare education. With this commitment, the AIHM Board of Directors started the AIHM Social Impact Scholars Program in 2019 to give healthcare practitioners working in underserved communities an opportunity to join the AIHM Fellowship. AIHM awarded $750,000 in scholarships to 27 clinicians working in a variety of Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) and to the Veterans Affairs Administration through that program.
In 2021, AIHM we deepened that commitment by giving back specifically to the Black, Indigenous, and People of Color communities by awarding scholarships to clinicians who are from and/or serve BIPOC communities.
Currently, our Social Impact Scholars Program is funded by the George Family Foundation to bring scholarships to clinicians serving the underserved Minnesota communities. Whether through the Social Impact Scholars program, or general AIHM scholarships and discounts, the Academy has given over $1 Million dollars to ensure all those who wish to receive education in the AIHM Fellowship are able to do so.
