Topic: Manipulative Therapy vs. Opioids for Older Adults with Spinal Pain
Dr. Whedon will report the results of recent research involving analysis of Medicare data, discuss the comparative value of these pharm. vs. non-pharm approaches to spine care, and implications for Medicare health policy.
Jim Whedon is a charter member of the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine. He is Director of Health Services Research at Southern California University of Health Sciences and an Adjunct Instructor at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice. He holds a DC degree from Logan College and an MS from Dartmouth College. He was trained in Health Services Research at Dartmouth under an NIH funded research career development grant. He has authored 42 peer-reviewed publications and is a recipient of the Jerome F. McAndrews DC Memorial Research Fund Award from NCMIC Foundation. His research interests include assessing the value of approaches to integrative healthcare, particularly non-pharmacologic alternatives to opioid medications, and accessing patient access to integrative healthcare services. He is most passionate about working toward the achievement of health justice in the US through healthcare that is grounded in humanistic values.
